Three Rivers Camp
Unspoiled South Luangwa

Tucked away in one of the remote areas of South Luangwa National Park, Three Rivers Camp is the most recent addition to Kafunta Safaris’ exceptional range of accommodations. The camp is situated at the junction of three rivers: the Luangwa River, Kapamba River and Lusangazi River – which inspired the name – and comprises five elegantly designed tents. Three of these tents offer an exquisite view of a grassy oxbow lagoon bustling with wildlife, including impalas, pukus, waterbucks, zebras, giraffes, and elephants. The remaining two tents are situated right on the banks of the Luangwa River and offer the perfect spot for observing the playful antics of the resident hippos.

The heart of the camp boasts a lounge and dining tent, complete with a spacious deck shaded by a magnificent century-old sausage tree. This area is only a stone’s throw away from a waterhole regularly visited by elephants, baboons, and giraffes. Needless to say, the game viewing begins right from the comfort of the camp!

Each luxurious tent has a spacious sleeping area that seamlessly connects to a private deck. The semi-open ensuite bathroom is furnished with both indoor and outdoor showers. However, what truly distinguishes these tents from the rest is the remarkable star beds atop a three-meter-high platform directly adjacent to the tents. Every night, guests have the option to sleep “in” or “out” under the mesmerising African sky. Regardless of the choice, the beds are exceptionally comfortable and equipped with mosquito nets to ensure undisturbed rest.

Despite being powered by solar energy, the camp deliberately avoids providing cellular phone reception or internet access. This carefully crafted absence of technology ensures an uninterrupted opportunity for guests to immerse themselves fully in the natural world without the distractions of the modern world. It allows guests to truly connect with nature and each other in a deeply meaningful way, fostering a sense of genuine presence and promoting quality time that is often elusive in our fast-paced, screen-oriented society.

The camp lies at the edge of the unspoiled south-eastern park region, a wildlife oasis. The area is teeming with a diverse array of creatures, including Thornicroft giraffes, impalas, pukus, waterbucks, Cookson’s wildebeests, Crawshay zebras, elephants, buffalos, hippos, and apex predators like lions, leopards and wild dogs. For the keen birdwatcher, the park also serves as a sanctuary for over 400 bird species. With minimal human interference, the area remains wild, presenting rare opportunities to observe animals in their original and unadulterated natural habitat.

To fully experience the vast and untamed wilderness, guests can embark on two exhilarating game-viewing activities daily, led by a team of exceptional safari guides, widely regarded as among Africa’s most accomplished. This duo of experiences – thrilling game drives and bush walks – provides a truly immersive and multifaceted way to engage with the environment and wildlife.
