PROFLIGHT ZAMBIA STAFF FLY TOWARDS 100% VACCINATION STATUS

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – The COVID-19 pandemic caused quite a disruption in the travel and tourism industry in Zambia. Despite the negative effects of the pandemic, Proflight Zambia remains focused on its goal of connecting the nation – and the region. With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, and the availability of vaccines, air travel is once again on the increase. Proflight Zambia has taken an uncompromising stance to help stop the spread of the virus, encouraging its staff to get vaccinated in order to protect themselves and the passengers.

As of October, Proflight Zambia staff vaccination statistics stood at 88% fully vaccinated, and the airline is confident that it is well on its way to achieving 90% by the end of 2021.

On the 10th of August of this year, the airline hit a milestone by operating its first flight with a fully vaccinated crew on its flagship 50-seater Bombardier CRJ-100 jet on the Lusaka-Johannesburg route. Proflight Zambia’s Director of Flight Operations, Captain Josias Walubita, termed the flight a significant achievement for Zambia’s aviation industry adding that as Zambia’s leading airline, Proflight Zambia is committed to the safety, health and wellbeing of its passengers and is contributing towards the fight against the pandemic.

“Our passenger’s safety comes first and we have put in place a range of measures to ensure that flights are safe for both passengers and staff. Face masks are mandatory for both passengers and crew when boarding and during the flight. All aircrafts are regularly disinfected. We also perform periodic fumigation of aircrafts. Social distancing is maintained at all points — airport entry, baggage drop counters, security checks, boarding gates, ramp and baggage claim. All Proflight staff, both on the ground and on board, are committed to guaranteeing passengers the highest levels of health and safety.”

Captain Walubita added that the airline recognised the vaccine’s role in COVID-19 prevention, noting that having a vaccinated crew was cardinal in helping airlines effectively combat the spread of the virus and ensure passenger safety.

“Aside from strict adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures, we have been encouraging our frontline personnel to participate in the ongoing voluntary vaccination drive as an extra-line of defence against the disease. We take the safety of our employees and passengers very seriously and the airline’s principles are built on that.” he added.

Senior flight attendant, Penjani Kakwende shared that he felt good to play his part in stopping the spread of the pandemic. “I feel confident being out there after getting vaccinated, I know that I’m safe and that the passengers are also safe in my presence.”

First Officer Mwamba Sampa added that it was important to get vaccinated because it helps our fight against COVID.

Proflight Zambia’s proactiveness in safety has made it the airline of choice for both domestic and international travellers as the world slowly recovers from the unprecedented outbreak. As the airline continues serving its customers, the airline commits to stay true to its four values: safety, reliability, efficiency, and friendly service.
